GoodBye YouTube!
The video shows my new Stanton STR8.150 playing a nice tune by B Wright. But why screw alimighty YouTube? Yes, it brought us hours and hours of joy, but in the spirit of GNUSocial and the new federated Web order (Web 4.0), I will decentralise, unhost my stuff from the corporate cloud, reposses my data and host video on my own.
I already host images myself and pulled out from Yahoo!'s Flickr. It is also very unclear where Yahoo! is steering after they recently sold Delicious; from which I pulled out before the sell-out, sensing somthing like this coming.
Well enough politics, let's enjoy some WebM video. There is a plugin called MediaElements for Wordpress, but I opted for the Media Elements source. At the Media Elements Web site they give also a clear explanation of current Browser support for different types of codecs, for instance h.264 is a propietery format used by IE9 and Safari, therefore we don't bother using it. Microsoft said, IE9 will natively play WebM, fair enough.
If you wonder how to encode in WebM, the codec that is used by Firefox4, Chrome and Opera, read: next-gen HTML5 browsers, then try this free software: http://mirovideoconverter.com/. (Mac only)
Here should be the video - but it might not work, depending on your browser. At the moment I support Firefox 3 with OGG/OGV support and Firefox 4, as well as latest Chrome and Opera with WebM support.
I will add comment funtionality, too. I recorded above video with a Google Nexus S and a Echo Audiofire2 routed into Ableton Live 7 Demo, then I merged Audio and Video with a Adobe Premiere Test Version. I plan to go 100% Free Software this month. So if you are interested in buying the Mac 27" in the video, drop me a mail.
